It’s been a year since Community Inspirers (Community Commissioners) from West Cheshire Poverty Truth Commission first began exploring the world of podcasting — and three months since they launched Inspiring Chats for Change.
Along the way, the team has learned a lot, and they wanted to pass that learning on. If your Commission has been thinking about starting a podcast, the West Cheshire team have kindly pulled together their top five tips to help you get started.
- Start with your ‘why‘ – Before you hit record, take a moment to ask yourself why do we want to make a podcast? Is it to inform, inspire, entertain, or celebrate?
- Do a little research – if you’re interviewing guests, take time to learn something about them. A bit of preparation makes conversations flow naturally and helps you ask better, more thoughtful questions.
- Think beyond the microphone – Podcasting is more than recording an episode. It includes researching topics and guests, interviewing people, editing your audio and promoting your content.
- There’s a role for everyone – Podcasting is a team effort. Whether your talent is organising, asking great questions, editing, or spreading the word; there’s a part for everyone.
- Don’t be afraid, just give it a try – You don’t need fancy equipment or loads of experience to get started. The best way to learn is simply to begin and see where it takes you.
Their latest episode is out now and features our Co-Director Andrew Grinnell in conversation with Commissioners Rachel and Shirley, talking honestly about the Network, their experiences, and what inspires change.
